If you suspect you have asthma
If you experience frequent coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest tightness, especially if it lasts for more than a few days, consult a doctor. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent long-term lung damage and worsening of the condition.
To monitor your asthma after diagnosis
Regular follow-up with your doctor is essential to keep your asthma under control and prevent severe attacks.
If your asthma symptoms worsen
Contact your doctor immediately if your medication doesn't seem to ease your symptoms, or if you need to use your quick-relief inhaler more often. Do not increase your medication dosage without consulting your doctor.
Severe asthma attack warning signs
Recognizing the early warning signs of an asthma attack can help you take action before symptoms become severe. If you notice any of the following signs, follow your asthma action plan and seek medical advice if symptoms worsen.
Wheezing
A whistling or squeaking sound when breathing may indicate narrowing of the airways and poor asthma control.
Increased Use of Rescue Inhaler
Needing your quick-relief inhaler more often than usual may indicate that your asthma is not well controlled.
Reduced Ability to Perform Daily Activities
Feeling unusually tired, avoiding physical activity, or struggling with routine tasks may signal worsening asthma symptoms.
Increased Shortness of Breath
Measures how much and how fast you can breathe out.
Frequent Coughing
A persistent cough, especially at night or early in the morning, can be an early sign that your asthma is worsening.
Chest Tightnes
You may experience a feeling of pressure, heaviness, or tightness in your chest that makes breathing uncomfortable.
Difficulty Sleeping
Waking up at night due to coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath is a common warning sign of worsening asthma.
Symptoms Not Improving with Medication
If your symptoms continue despite using your prescribed medication, seek medical attention promptly.
